Bio

About 9 is British musician and producer Jake Skinner.

Born in 1986 in Plymouth, he currently lives in Brighton, a city on the south coast of England famous for its vibrant music scene. As a small child Jake was forever making noise, whether it was banging on pot and pan drums or plonking around on the family piano and guitar. He was given his first electric guitar aged eight, and then started playing drums a couple of years later. During his early secondary school years he began to toy with other instruments, write his own songs, and form his first bands.

A few years, and many gigs later, he upgraded his trusty four-track to a computer, and began to explore the world of electronic music production. Whilst continuing to play in several bands, he started to write his own computer-based music, captivated by the new possibilities that samplers, synths, and sequencers could offer him. From this, About 9 was born.

As well as producing his own tracks under the About 9 moniker, Jake gigs and tours extensively in a band, and has collaborated on various projects with musicians and artists in many different styles.
Drawing inspiration from a love of virtually all things musical, his sound as About 9 has gradually evolved into what you hear today – A melting pot of organic instrumentation and electronic production, with a healthy dose of lilting melodies, tranquil soundscapes, and intricate down-tempo beats!
